Week 1 – Boundaries
1.1) Boundaries are often seen as restrictions. However, in reality boundaries provide freedom.
Define some boundaries commonly seen as restrictions?
Define these boundaries as freedoms?
What is your reason for that particular boundary being placed where it is in your life?
Examples:
l. Grocery shopping when you are not hungry (healthy eating/ avoid overspending/overeating)
ll. Budget spending rather than checkbook spending (debt reduction & principle increase/avoid debt increase & overspending)
lll. Calling your spouse when you are running later than usual (accountability pattern established/respect & consideration of spouse/avoids unnecessary worry & questions in the marriage)
1.2) In this lesson we learned that “Your Decisions Determine Your Destiny”.
What is a personal boundary in your life that helps you know who you are?
What description would your family, friends & neighbors give to “define” or name you?
Examples:
l. Road Rage/Speed Demon
ll. Work-a-holic/Hobby-holic
lll. Balanced/Godly/Family
What is one boundary you plan to target in your life from this session?
What are some new boundaries that you can establish and use consistently for the next 10 days straight in an area of your life that you want to preserve?
1.3) When your loyalty to your boundaries is challenged, how do you respond?
What would you do if tempted to cheat on your taxes, or cheat on your spouse?
Examples:
l. Give in – because I’m used to that path
ll. Try to talk myself out of it
lll. Draw near to God & He will draw near to me
1.4) When you are tempted to compromise your personal boundaries, how do you overcome this temptation?
If you are in a situation that comes up where there is inappropriate behavior about to take place & your coworkers invite you to partake with them?
Examples:
l. Leave
ll. Just say No
lll. Explain yourself
lV. Contact an accountability partner
1.5) What is one boundary you plan to target in your life from this session?
What are some new boundaries that you can establish and use consistently for the next 10 days straight in an area of your life that you want to preserve?
Examples:
l. Eating habits – no fried food or red meat
ll. Exercise – walking for 30 min.
lll. Prayer/Quiet time with God first thing in the morning for 30 min.
