Week 3 – Discovering the Garden

3.1) From our lesson today we learned the Garden of Eden was a place of relational exchange – or fellowship with God.

Where is your “Eden” and why did you choose that particular place?

3.2) Name a time when you felt closest to God. Why was that?

Where were you and what were you doing when you felt the closest to God?

Examples:
l. Birth of a child/ saw new life appear
ll. At church altar/ God confirmed his word to you
lll. “Prayer closet”/ private intimacy with God

3.3) Name a time you felt distant from God? Why?

Where were you and/or what were you doing or not doing when you felt distant to God?

Examples:
l. Sinning and not being honest about it before the Lord / broken covenant
ll. Not spending quality time alone with God / no relational exchange
lll. Not spending time reading & meditating on His Word / No spiritual nourishment

3.4) What are the greatest distractions to quiet time with God?

Name a time when you had a quiet time with God prepared and then were distracted?

Examples:
l. Began time with God/emergency phone call
ll. Began praying/thought of something urgent you forgot to do
lll. Waited until evening/to tired to focus

3.5) What can you do to position yourself to hear from God in an ongoing way?

Name something that you have done in the past that has positioned you to hear from God in your quiet time?

Examples:
l. Unplug the phone/turn on answering machine
ll. Get up early before the children
lll. Go to a location where there is privacy
